Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest. (Jeremiah 5:24)īut when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest. In addition to the literal use of the word referring to the harvesting of ripened crops, the Bible uses the same word when referring to rescuing of the remnant of Israel and the resurrection and rapture of believers from the earth.
